Jack Davis Foundation announces...
Hey gang,
This afternoon I received this email from Alex Murawski regarding the Jack Davis Foundation. Take a look and see if this isn't something you might be interested in. The email that I sent each of you has the PDF.

The Jack Davis Foundation is launching it's first Jack Davis Humor Show and I'd like to ask if you would share the Call for Entries with your fellow NCS members. Just so that it's clear, the Jack Davis Foundation has no connection to any charity, and it's unclear if Jack is even involved, although his son is. It's basically a group of people who's purpose is to promote the awareness of Jack Davis and his work. To that end, they are charging any artists interesting in submitting work to be CONSIDERED for the show $25. Then if your work is selected you pay ANOTHER $25 for the privilege of being in it.
As far as I can tell, the only tangible charitable use of any funds generated is the promise of scholarships sometime in the future.
This organization approached the NCS to promote submissions to their show, and we politely declined. Archiving the work of Jack Davis, and promoting the awareness of his career, are great things to do (although as Jack might be the most celebrated humorous illustrator of the 20th century, I am not sure how much awareness need be generated), but the use of the word "Foundation" in the title seems misleading to me. Were there any charitable connection, the NCS would have been happy to promote it.
I'm not saying don't do this, or that these guys are crooked. They are not, their mission statement is clear and if that is something you want to support, by all means. Just don;t confuse this with somethign like the NCS Foundation or other real charitable organizations.
