NCS, USO and The Center of the Intrepid

Hey everyone, I just got back from a trip to San Antonio with a bunch of NCSers. We went to visit with our wounded soldiers at Brooke Medical Center and the rehab facility-The Center of the Intrepid. Please visit my blog and read the lowdown! On this trip was Jeff Keane, Bill Hinds, Rick Kirkman, Milburn Taylor, Rob Harrel, Rob Smith Jr., Ed Steckly and of course, Jeff Bacon. I suggest if it's at all possible for you, to try to get on one of these trips to visit our nations soldiers. It's a trip you'll never forget.

Reuben Judging — ROOM RATES

The room rate at the Holiday Inn are $99 per night. They should be set and ready to go beginning tomorrow (Monday, Jan 25). You will want to call the hotel directly (402-475-4011) and ask for RESERVATIONS and for the $99 rate under the NCS North Central Chapter.
If at that time you get a "huh?" from the desk, THEN ask for Kyle (in Sales). He is the person who made these arrangements.

See you next month!
We may have some great guests, too.

— ME

PS - If anyone should ask, my Zip code is 68512, not 08512. When the NCS posted the mailing address they made a boo-boo.

They're coming in like crazy!

Hey gang,

Those NEWSPAPER COMIC STRIP entries are really starting to fly in now! If you are submitting, get 'em to me ASAP.
Most are coming in on 8-1/2 x 11" sheets with 3 or 4 strips on a sheet.
We're also starting to get some RSVPs for our judging meeting next month, too.

Nice....

Reuben Judging — February 19-20

Reuben Judging Meeting

Turn off the stove, feed the cat, kiss your wife bye-bye, and make your way to Lincoln, NE so you can join in the fun and debauchery as we, the voting members of the National Cartoonist Society North Central Chapter, gather to judge our selected category for the 2009 Reuben Awards.

Mark your calendars —

Friday, February 19, 2010:
7:00 p.m. - We will meet in the bar at the Holiday Inn-Downtown, Lincoln, NE. This will be the crux of the evening.

Saturday, February 20, 2010:
8:00 a.m. - Breakfast in the H-Inn restaurant
9:30 a.m. - We’ll move downstairs to the conference room and the judging will begin.
Noon - LUNCH!!! After lunch, a little meeting to discuss the fall meeting, the Toonfest, and anything else that catches our fancy (within reason).

This year we’ve been handed the dubious honor of judging the NEWSPAPER COMIC STRIP category.

The National office would like us to have at least 7 voting members on hand to cast their votes for the best of the best in Newspaper Comic Strips for 2009. Naturally we’d like to have as many members on hand to join in the fun (and pick up the bar tab).

Our treasurer, Paul Fell is twisting the arm of the Downtown Holiday Inn (9th & P Streets, Lincoln). This is the same place were we voted on the Editorial Cartoons, last year. Hopefully all remodeling is done and paid for and they’ve forgotten that we were ever there. (Perhaps they’ve confused us with the Masonic Lodge New Member Initiations & Chili Cook Off.)

Please RSVP with Paul Fell at pfell@nebr.rr.com
Or Mike Edholm at medholm1@mac.com
Paul will be able to give you details as room rates, after hours joints, escort services, etc.

Looking forward to seeing you.

Your pinheaded leader,
Mike Edholm

No time for the holidays...

Sorry for not getting some kind of warm, holiday greetings up on the blog. I've been up to my uvula in work trying to get more pages done for the UNDERCOVER COCKROACH - SECRET AGENT 69 g-novel done. The plan is to have the finished product done for show at the 2010 Comic-Con International. So I'm working my little digits to the bone! Enjoy and lets hope that 2010 is better than 2009.
